Intelsat EpicNG – A High Throughput Satellite Teach-In
Earlier this year, I had the privilege of joining my colleague, Intelsat EVP and CTO Thierry Guillemin, in conducting a “teach-in” about high throughput satellite (HTS) technology at SATELLITE 2013 in Washington, D.C. In the session, we discussed the many technical and commercial considerations involved in choosing any HTS design, and how the choice of a platform involves more than just an examination of Ku-band versus Ka-band. We also highlighted why Intelsat chose to invest in the high throughput, high performance Intelsat EpicNG platform.
Our teach-in was so well received that we decided to take the information a step further and make it available in a shortened video format for anyone who wants to learn more about this important and timely topic. This 30-minute video, which features Intelsat Vice Presidents Mohammad Marashi and Steve Good, is broken into easily digestible “modules” of less than 5 minutes, with each module covering individual technical and commercial aspects, which are defined as:
- Throughput
- Efficiency
- Coverage
- Architecture
- Spectrum
We consider these five elements interconnected and interdependent, not only on one another, but upon the customer applications that HTS needs to support.
It is my pleasure to share this resource with our employees, customers and prospects, business partners, members of the media and others who are interested in learning more about HTS technology.
